Nitrous Oxide & Sedation Dentistry
What is sedation dentistry?
Dental anxiety is a common issue with which many patients suffer, and our caring dentist and team understand that completely. Ensuring that your visit to our office is a pleasant and comfortable one is one of our main goals. To this end, we offer sedation dentistry in Centennial, Colorado. We are equipped and experienced with sedative medications and techniques in order to promote a positive and enjoyable experience. At Peak Dental Care, there are three main forms of sedation dentistry available:
- Nitrous oxide — Nitrous oxide, also called “laughing gas,” is an odorless, clear mixture of nitrogen and oxygen. Inhalation of this gas can result in an almost immediate feeling of tranquility and even euphoria. You will remain awake and will still be able to talk and follow any instructions. The effects wear off very quickly once the gas is taken away, so you can safely drive yourself home afterwards.
- Oral sedation — Dr. Scott Lindsay can prescribe a pill that you can take before your appointment. The effects of this pill are calming and relaxing. You should remain awake since it is not a sleeping medication, but it is common for patients to feel so relaxed that they do fall asleep, and it is also normal for patients to not remember all of the details of their appointment. You will need someone to drive you to and from your appointment when you opt for oral sedation.
- IV sedation — This is our most powerful form of sedation. A sedative is administered directly into your bloodstream through an IV line, providing quick results that can be adjusted accordingly throughout your appointment.
Dr. Scott Lindsay and our team will discuss the different sedative options with you so that you can make the best decision about which type of sedation is right for you. We are well-trained in all these techniques and will keep you safe and comfortable throughout the entire appointment. Call us today at 720-489-0797 to learn more or schedule an appointment!
