Dental Sealants
What is a sealant?
Dental sealants are one of the preventive services we provide to protect your smile from decay. We want to keep your teeth healthy and free from cavities, and sealants help us reach this goal. A dental sealant is a very thin coating of resin material that is painted onto the chewing surface of the teeth. Sealants are most often used on the back teeth (molars and premolars) because these teeth have natural grooves and pits where decay can easily form. The sealant seals off these grooves and blocks out the bacteria, plaque, acids, and sugars that lead to tooth decay and cavities. The dental sealant also creates a smoother surface on the teeth that makes them easier to keep clean through regular tooth brushing.
Do I need sealants?
Dr. Scott Lindsay typically recommends dental sealants in Centennial, Colorado, for children when their permanent molars and premolars first erupt, which is generally between the ages of 6 and 12 years. Some adults may also benefit from sealants. To learn more about sealants and how we can keep your smile free from the effects of decay, we welcome you to contact us today at Peak Dental Care.
